Wells-Next-The-Sea
Was our first stop on our trip on our first day, it was the most recommended place in north Norfolk There’s a perfect circular walk for dogs from Wells-next-the-Sea which takes your through the gorgeous Holkham beach and Holkham Estate, which sits right next to Wells-next-the-sea (Link to Map).
It takes you through the village of Wells, through the parkland surrounding Holkham Hall (We skipped this part as we went to Holkham Hall later in the week) through the sand dunes of Holkham Beach and then along the Beach back to the Wells-next-the-sea Beach Car park.
We took the walk in the direction of the village first then along the road between Wells-next-the-sea and Holkham then went down through the holkham beach car park and back through the dunes and along the beach coming out at the car park.
Sheringham Park
We spent our second morning in Sheringham Park. It is simply beautiful, Chester had an absolute ball in the woodland. Parking is available outside the entrance, it costs £6.50 per car to park all day and is free to National Trust members.
There are so many walks to choose from that are suitable for a range of abilities however I was under the belief that Norfolk was flat 😂 so I was shocked at how many hills Sheringham park contained. That wasn’t a problem for us however we were expecting a flat holiday!
National Trust have teamed up with Forthglade to create a canine code, to help care for the places you love for us and our pups:
Take the lead: Reduce the chance of your pup disturbing wildlife by keeping them on a lead.
Scoop that poop: Bag it and bin it to keep your favourite places beautiful.
Paws for thought: Look out for information signs and take extra care on cliff paths.
Be on the ball: Not everyone loves dogs, so keep them close by.
You can use CHESTER10 to save @Forthglade
There are four waymarked routes with distances ranging from one to five miles taking you through the varying habitats of the park. We couldn't decide which one to take so we just started walking, in the end we'd done a combination of trails.
We fully intended to head to the Sheringham Hall and the Gazebo however when we got close there was a herd of cows across the path and Chester is terrified to cows to we had to change routes.
Cromer
After visiting Sheringham in the morning we headed to Cromer for some lunch and a Crab. To be completely honest after visiting the picturesque village of Well-next-the-sea, Cromer was a slight let down. We didn't exactly have the best weather, it was windy and blustery and the sea was wild, the noise from the waves scared Chester. So we had a little walk around the town to find a fishmonger to source a Crab for our evening seafood platter and that pretty much summed up our hour in Cromer.
Eating the Crab was definitely the best part of the day it was delicious!
Kings Lynn
Due to the weather and that we'd had two big adventures over the past two days, we decided to have a more relaxed day on our third day in Norfolk, so we headed into Kings Lynn which is about 10 Miles from Darwin Escapes - Norfolk Woods.
We parked in the Kings Lynn train station car park and started the day with a walk in The Walks (Name of the park) Chester very much enjoyed walking among all the squirrels. We then took the short walk into the city centre and stopped for lunch at Cafe Nèro, which is very dog friendly as much of Norfolk is!
I didn't manage to get any pictures of Kings Lynn as it was the only day it poured down with rain so the camera stayed in the lodge!
Holkham Hall
Dogs are welcomed with open arms at Holkham Hall we thoroughly enjoyed walking around the estate. It is so beautiful and peaceful. Dogs must be kept on the lead however due to the wildlife including the huge herd of Deer.
Their are some good choices of walks ranging from shorter walks more suitable for children and elderly and those with limited mobility to walks for the more experienced hiker. We picked a path in-between as we just wanted a 2 hour max walk.
When we arrived back at the visitor area, we decided to have lunch in the cafe before returning to our lodge for evening drinks.
Hunstanton
We headed out in the morning to check out Hunstanton with the idea of going on to a few other little villages around North Norfolk however the rain had other ideas and after a lovely walk and a coffee we headed back to relax in the lodge. By this point in the week we were all slightly exhausted from all the exploring, even Chester! I really wanted to see the old Hunstanton Beach and the Cliffs which i'd found when researching the area. The Cliffs didn't disappoint and we explored along the bottom of them which is a shingle type beach. The dogs loved it.
Sandringham Estate
We couldn't not visit Sandringham Estate when we were staying so close, so we headed for a quick explore before going for Sunday lunch as the resort.
The trails were well signposted and it was easy to navigate. Dogs are allowed off lead in areas but there are alot of cyclists so be careful.
Wells-next-the-sea/Holkham Beach
After our delicious Sunday Lunch at the resort we headed back to our favourite place for one last time before home - Wells-next-the-sea. We walked the beach on our first day but it was the last part of the walk and was getting late as we had spent more time in Wells town so we had to come back and let the dogs enjoy themselves on the beach before we headed home. Us humans had a ice cream and walked along the harbour. It was a perfect way to end a very relaxing holiday in Norfolk.
Thanks for Reading
Sarah and Chester.
